Fibril-Tuf™ Polypropylene Fibrillated Fibers

Fibril-Tuf™ is designed to distribute quickly throughout the concrete mix. The fibrillation pattern it forms optimizes the mechanical bond between the mortar matrix and the fiber networks. The enhanced mechanical bond allows the product to provide optimal control of plastic shrinkage and drying shrinkage cracking. Fibril-Tuf™ is an excellent secondary reinforcement option when used at 1.5 pcy.

Technical Data Sheet

NMW Fibers provide a proactive approach to minimizing and controlling concrete's inherent cracking. NMW Fibers are a cost effective alternative to WWF while contributing far more to the soundness and long-term durability of the concrete than WWF by reducing plastic shrinkage cracking and providing secondary reinforcement.

Why is secondary reinforcement important?

The purpose of secondary reinforcement is to hold concrete together after it cracks. In the case of WWF, this will only happen if it is placed properly within the cross-section and is not left laying on the subgrade. Placed properly or improperly, the cost in terms of time and money is expensive.

Since the early 1980's, engineers have accepted the use of synthetic fibers in lei of conventional steel (WWF, Wire Mesh) as secondary/temperature-shrinkage reinforcement.

Synthetic fibers are easy to introduce, uniformly distributed and reduce on-the-job time for the contractor. Fibers perform better than WWF by modifying the micro/macro cracking of the concrete while enhancing the soundness of the concrete by reducing permeability and greatly improving impact resistance, surface abrasion and resistance, and toughness.

NMW, Inc. Offerings

NMW, Inc. currently fabricates four different fibers.

Mono-Pro™ Polypropylene Monofiliment Fibers

Mono-Pro™ is a unique monofiliment polypropylene fiber with a diameter of 3 denier + 0.2 denier. It is available in 3 cut lengths- 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4". There are approximately 200 million individual 3/4" long fibers in one pound of Mono-Pro™. This means there are approximately 100 million individual fibers in the 0.5 pcy recommended dosage as a plastic shrinkage crack reinforcement. Reducing plastic concrete shrinkage cracking is very important when it comes to improving and ensuring long-term durability of concrete. Mono-Pro™ passed all of the ICC ES AC32 reinforcement requirements at 0.5 pcy and is recognized in ICC ES Evaluation Report ESR-1699.

Mono-Pro™ is a high tensile strength, high modulus of elasticity, ultra-thin monofiliment homopolymer polypropylene fiber designed to quickly and uniformly distribute throughout concrete mix. It is the ideal plastic shrinkage reinforcement component in steel fiber and microsynthetic fiber blends and macrosynethic fiber and microsynthetic fiber blends.

Tuff-Max DOT™ Macro Fibers

Tuf-Max DOT™, a macrosynthetic fiber, is a specific blend of polypropylene and polyethylene resins that possesses unique engineering properties. It was developed solely as secondary/post-first crack reinforcement in concrete.

Defined as a tape or ribbon fiber, Tuf-Max DOT™ has a rectangular cross-section and has been mechanically embossed to enhance bonding. Its physical dimensions are critical its performance as measured by the ASTM  Test Method C1609. Extensive testing has shown that Tuf-Max DOT™ outperforms the other macrosynthetic fibers on the market, and its distribution and finishing properties are outstanding.

Tuf-Max DOT™ has been accepted by a number of state DOTs as well as specifications and code applications.

Ny-Tuf™ Nylon Fibers

Ny-Tuf™ is a standard denier monofiliment nylon fiber designed to distribute quickly throughout the concrete mix. It modifies both macro and micro cracking properties of the concrete- significantly improving its long-term durability. Ny-Tuf™ is typically used at a dosage rate of 1.0 pcy which provides reinforcement for cracks resulting from both plastic shrinkage and temperature shrinkage.
